American Eskimo or American Spitz is a breed of companion dogs that has been used as a watchdog, sled dog and as a circus performer during 1930s and 40s. American Eskimo comes in small to medium sizes. It is notable for its star white or cream colored coats. American Eskimo, nickname Eskie, is derived from German Spitz breed of dogs. It comes in three variations toy, miniature and standard American Eskimos.

All the three toy, miniature and standard varieties of American Eskimos have a wedge shaped head with proportionate skull and muzzle. They have triangular and erect ears and a beautiful curved tail. Its tail curls upward over the back in a regal fashion. Their jaws are strong with close fitting teeth. Height of American Eskimos varies from 9 to 19 inches and the weight ranges from 6 to 36 pounds depending upon the variety. Average life span of American Eskimos is about 15 years. They are alert, intelligent, trainable and independent dogs. They are suitable as good family pets and companion dogs. Puppies of American Eskimos are extremely cut and many people purchase the puppies.
