Chow Chow is a breed of dog that was first developed in Mongolia about 4000 years ago and later on introduced into China. In Chinese language, it literally means ‘Puffy Lion Dog’. Chow Chow are most common companion dogs in China. Size of Chow Chow is 45-70 pounds in weight and 18-22 inches in height. Average lifespan of Chow Chow is 12-15 years. Their temperaments are highly inconsistent and tend to change frequently from one extreme to another.

Chow Chow is a sturdy and well-built dog with a square profile and a broad skull. Their ears are small, triangular, erect and rounded at the tips. They have a dens double coat, which may be smooth or rough, fur being very thick around the neck and thus giving distinctive ruff or mane appearance. Coat comes in five colors including red, black, blue, cinnamon and cream. Eyes are deep-set and almond shaped. Chow Chow is characterized by its unique blue/black/purple tongue and a very straight hind legs. Their bluish color extends to their lips, which is also a unique feature amongst all the breeds of dogs.

Chinese Foo is a compact dog with an overall square profile. They come in three sizes toy, miniature and standard. Head is moderately broad with pricked ears. Chinese Shar-Pei Dog or Chinese Fighting Dog or simple Shar-Pei is a breed of dog that has originated in China. They are best known for their distinctive features of deep wrinkles and blue-black tongue. The Chinese word Shar-Pei translates into ‘Sand Skin’, which refers to the texture of its short and rough coat. Puppies are born with numerous wrinkles, which disappear and grow into skin, as the puppies mature. Chinese Shar-Pei dogs were named by Guinness Book of World records as the world’s rarest breeds of dogs.

The overall profile of Chinese Shar-Pei is compact and square-shaped with a head that is slightly large proportionate to the body. They have hippo-like muzzle and a very high-set tail. All these three features give Shar-Pei a unique appearance. Tail should be thick and round at the base and then taper to a fine point and curl over to any side of the back. They have a medium-length body with muscular and well-set sloping shoulders. Three different types of coats horse-coat, brush-coat and bear-coat are found in the Chinese Shar-Pei breeds of dogs. They are highly intelligent, independent, calm, confident and dignified dogs. Their size is 40-55 pounds in weight and 18-20 inches in height.
