Chinky-eyed and puffy, it is to no surprise that the Chow Chow finds its roots from China. It was only in the 1800s that this dog breed was introduced in Great Britain. Chow Chows are great hunting dogs and are very competent in managing herds. Its lineage is traced to the Spitz dog breed but has a characteristically coarse, rough and dense coat.

Weighing an average of 60 pounds at 17 to 21 inches in height, the Chow Chow is a high maintenance dog. Its coat sheds heavily and regularly. Very frequent brushing as well as professional grooming is necessary to keep the Chow Chow looking handsome.

The Chow Chow has a protective attitude and proves to be faithful, making him a perfect watchdog. Training is a challenge as this dog breed has a stubborn streak. Chow Chows are not sociable dogs and so it is encouraged to introduce interactive skills when they are young.

The Shar-Pei?s ancestry began in the country of China. It is an ancient dog breed primarily utilized for hunting, herding, and fighting. The Shar-Pei dog breed had nearly vanished to extinction in the past but fortunately has now come forth as one of the world?s most prolific breeds.

Shar-Peis are not sociable dogs. They are very independent and reserved. Because its old fighting habits remain, Shar-Peis often pick quarrels with its own kind as well as other animals. This fighting instinct can be an annoying and ?unsafe? characteristic for first-time pet owners. Early introduction to socialization is the first stage of training which can be quite a challenge as the Shar-Pei is very determined and stubborn in nature, attacking cats and livestock at will.

What makes the Shar-Pei stand out is its wrinkly skin on the face. The wrinkles make him look adorable and ?harmless.? Shar-Pei owners must take extreme care and maintenance in keeping its skin folds always clean.

Shar-Peis come in different colors namely, black, red, chocolate, silver, fawn, cream, sable and silver. Its life expectancy is from seven to twelve years.
