Australian Terrier is a little dog from Terrier breed of dogs. It was developed in Australia in the 19th Century for a specific purpose of killing the rats and snakes. Australian Terriers have become common in Australian besides gaining popularity all over the world. With its friendly, happy, fearless and fun loving nature, they are ideally suitable as companions in the city and urban locations. They are alert, courageous, affectionate and self-confident. They always seek companions and therefore should never be left alone for extended period of time. They are natural watchdogs and they will sound alarm as soon as a strange person or animal approaches the house.

Australian Terrier is a low set dog with its body longer than the its height at withers. It has a high set tail. Head is elongated with a slight stop. Ears are medium size, triangular and pricked. Eyes are small, dark and oval with a keen expression. Overcoat is rough and harsh and undercoat is soft. Coat comes in blue and tan, red or sandy color. Its weight is around 14-16 pounds and height is around 10 inches. Australian Terrie has a life span of about 11-14 years.

Australian Shepherd is a breed of herding dogs that was developed on ranches in the Western United States. The name Australian Shepherd or Aussie Shepherd sounds like a misnomer as the breed did not originate in Australia. In fact, the name has been derived because of its association with immigrant Australian sheep herders who came to USA. Owing to its inherent versatility, trainability, obedience and energy, besides being used as herding dogs, they are also used as search and rescue dogs, disaster dogs, detection dogs, guide dogs, service dogs and therapy dogs.

Australian shepherds have well-defined, expressive and almond shaped eyes. Skull ranges from flat to slightly domed shaped and with a well-defined stop. Ears are triangular in shape and rounded at the tips. Its tail is either straight, docked or naturally bobbed. Overcoat is straight or wavy, medium-length and weather proof and undercoat is soft and dense. Coat comes in black, red, blue merle and red merle. Its weight is around 50-65 pounds and height is about 20-23 inches. Australian Shepherds have an average life expectancy of about 12-15 years.

Australian Kelpie belongs to the breed of sheep dogs. They are well-known for mustering and droving the flocks of sheep with little or no command and guidance. With its reputation as a cheap and efficient worker, Australian Kelpie have been exported all over the world for mustering livestock mainly sheep, cattle and poultry. Australian Kelpie dogs have been bred into two varieties Show Kelpie and Working Kelpie.

Australian Working Kelpie has a compact body with well-developed limbs. They are slightly longer than its height. Head is medium-length and set low. Feet are short and compact with well-arched toes. Overcoat is hard, straight and weather repellent and undercoat is short and dense. Coat comes in almost any color from black through light tan or cream. Ears are widely spaced and usually pricked. Eyes are medium size, widely spaced and almond shaped with golden or brown color that matches with the coat color. They weigh about 30-45 pounds and height is about 20 inches. They have a life span of 12-14 years.

Australian Cattle Dog is a medium sized, short coated, energetic and intelligent breed of herding dogs that have been developed in Australia for controlling cattle. They are also known as Queensland Heeler, Blue Heeler and red Heeler. They are sturdy, well-muscled and powerful yet agile working-dogs.

Its head is quite broad and slightly rounded. Ears are widely set apart and moderately pointed. Its eyes are medium sized, oval shaped and dark brown. Muzzle is medium-length and deep, with muzzle and skull on parallel planes. They have a very strong neck that blends into the body. Its feet are round with short toes, which are well-arched and close together. They have a double coat with short, straight and protective outer coat and short and dense undercoat. Coat generally comes in two colors blue and red. The weight is roughly between 35-50 pounds and the height is about 17-19 inches. Australian Cattle Dogs have a life span of about 12-15 years.
