Australian Shepherd




Australian Shepherd or Aussie is a robust, well-balanced and rustic dog from hunting breeds of dogs. Aussie, as the name sounds, seems to be from Australia but it was originally bred in the ranches of Western United States. The breed has shot to fame due to its frequent appearance in Disney channel movies. With their excellent versatility, ease of training and high agility, Australian Shepherds have become one of the most popular not only for herding but also for dog sports such as flyball and frisbee, among others.

Moreover, Aussie is also quite famous for search and rescue operations, guide and therapy dogs, disaster dogs and detection dogs. The coat is weather resistant, slightly wavy, and with smooth texture. Aussie comes in many colors including black, red, liver, marbled black, and marble red with a combination of copper tans and white markings on face, chest and legs. The size is medium yet solid build with a weight of around 50-65 pounds and a height of around 20-24 inches. Their average lifespan is 12-15 years. In terms of temperament, Australian Shepherds are highly energetic, playful, loyal, agile, quick, thoughtful and versatility to live in many different weather conditions and terrain.
