Its eyes are yellowish brown to brownish, hazel or dark colored with color being harmonious with the coat color. It weighs around 35-45 pounds and its height is about 15-18 inches. Average life span is around 12-15 years. Apart from hunting, they also make a fine companion dog and due to smaller size, they are also suitable as apartment dogs.

Anatolian Shepherd is a large and powerful guardian breed of dogs, which has its origin in Anatolia, Central Turkey. They are the best breed of dogs for guarding flocks of sheep from wolves, bears, jackals and even cheetahs. They are developed to be independent and forceful to take the responsibility of guarding the flocks even in the absence of its masters or without any directions from the masters. They are capable of overpowering four to five wolves and killing one or two.

It has many similar traits with Great Pyrenees breed of dogs. Due to its slender and thin yet supple body, they are also used as racing dogs or hunting dogs after proper training. Anatolian Shepherd dogs have a well-muscled body, thick neck, broad head and sturdy body. It has black triangular and dropping ears. Its eyes are deep set, small and generally golden or brownish. They have a short and rough coat that comes in a variety of colors, white cream or sesame being the most common. It weighs from 90-150 pounds and its height is around 28-32 inches. Anatolian Shepherd dogs have an average life span of about 12-15 years.
